Mobile comparison shopping solution provider ScanBuy just announced that it has received million in Series B financing. This round was led by Longworth Venture Partners, Masthead Venture Partners and Hudson Venture Partners and participated by existing angel investors.
With a data-enabled cellphone which can be connected to the Internet, ScanBuy’s barcode-capture technology allows shoppers to upload the information of a specific product to comparison shopping websites such as PriceGrabber.com and Amazon.com. It then sends you information on the best prices. Now ScanBuy works best with books, electronic equipment and CDs.
There are some Chinese companies also trying to offer similiar services in the past few years. However, there is a long way to go for them all due to lack of recognition, poor wireless netowrk, costly GPRS fee, complicate bar-code systems, etc.
